Call of Cthulhu - Skin Weed by Kyena Call of Cthulhu - Skin Weed by Kyena
Another illustration for Fantasy Flight Games

This time it's a mix between my normal style and a rougher approach. Seems to work fine for small card illustrations.

And painting scary things is fun :D

Photoshop 7 from Pencil sketch.
Working size was 1200 px x 900 px (quite small)

not teacher - Art Director. Those are the people I work for as freelancer. You know the ones responsible for the Art of a Movie, Game or Book. They obviously like what I do - otherwise they wouldn't commission me each month ;)

as a matter of fact - I would love to attend some life drawing lessons or theory on colors and light and shadows

You actually believe you need them. Though I wouldn’t mind taken a color theory class myself. I learned painting through an illustrator friend of mine who has been in the biz for 30 years. Though I have my own style, if I haven’t met him I probably wouldn’t be painting now. Just sitting on the couch wishing I COULD paint instead of doing it.

hmm, I think it would be easier to start thinking sometimes..it's hard to explain. At least it would be nice to have some lessons.
I agree on the friends thing - throughout the last few years I have met a lot of other artists and if it wouldn't be for them I wouldn't be painting today.

At last, i came across a cthulhu image in DA! Excellent picture, very intense and great colors. The expression in the man's face is amazing, i think that's what is really scary in this image. And i like the layout a lot, with the smaller frames in th elower part. Now i have to browse through your whole gallery to find more Cthulhu art!!! ;)

I dunno why I have to check deviations at night when I'm by myself. *is a coward* The detail is just amazing. I think you rendered the tentacles really well. Ugh, that guy must be hurting. I like the BG too, it adds to the scarieness(sp?) I think.

This looks so awesome :D And I love seeing all those tiny brushstrokes, probably won't even be visible in print but that could add some lively texture. I feel parts of the goo on his hand could be a little more slimey? It doesn't quite have the same glistening, tansparent qualities of the... tentacle bits, hehe.
