'Game of Thrones' Characters by Kyena 'Game of Thrones' Characters by Kyena
More artwork for Fantasy Flight Games.
Who knew I would paint so many games in such a short time. Finished all of those within two weeks.
Worked pretty small too since all of those are for trading cards.

Like I mentioned on the closeups of the topmost guy already: I downsized that painting way too early and was being left with working on the small normal size we were supposed to send in the paintings for print. Quite a pain and it definately shows.
Ah well - they will be printed very small anyway..

The bottom one looks almost exactly like my history professor.

Your work is amazingly realistic with a surreal flair. I love it.

specifically the illustrations you did for the game of thrones and the alice in wonderland. Or did you do them for fun? I may have misunderstood

thank you, i should have specified. Just out of curiosity, i'm almost out of art school myself, and a career doing that sort of work really appeals to me. Just how did you get to such a lovely position?

I was very lucky I guess. All the companies I work for just addressed me. I don't even have an official portfolio I send out or advertise.
Online Communities help to get your name out there however.

GAME OF THRONES! *drools in delight over both the artwork and the series* i love this, assuming thats Samwell Tarly in the second panel, he looks just like i expected. the detail is fantastic

Ive got to say i'm getting a little anxious for the series to finish, i know there are only two more books to come, but it seems he takes longer and longer to write each one, he really knows how to make you want the next book like nothing else

that's indeed Sam (glad someone who knows him better then I do, recognized him) :)
I have never read that books since unfortunately I didn't have the time. I started the first one but never got over a few pages >_<

well if you ever get the time they are a great read. the way its written is really interesting, it jumps from character to character in apparently no order, and the almost disjointed chronology is amazingly well done. Sam is one of the better characters in my opinion, hes like a fat little crybaby who ends up being one of the heroes of the Wall

yes I got that about Sam when I was doing some research - he is also the one finding out what can hurt the others, right? The obsidian shard?

yeah, thats what he was a hero for, he became known as Sam the Slayer after he killed the first one using the "dragonstone" blade

What I love the most is the skin tones and the overall atmosphere... Those blue and redish tones. * nods *
Plus, the faces are realistic, the lightning is good, and so on. As only crit I think the second guy has small mouth... The face is like too much canvas for the small features he has (eyes and mouth). But maybe I'm too late on this. And maybe the character description was that way. Either way, good job!

I had one week to finish all of those. Good thing is they are pretty small and I didn't have to work big.
I agree with your crits for Sam though. He is described as a chubby boy who has to be a fighter but rather would like to go dancing or reading books. He was a bit of a challenge to paint.

For the skin tones. I basically used the same schemes for all of them (since all of them belong to the same group of men - fighting in the cold ice) and just slightly adjusted them for each character.

this game of thrones game isn't based off the game of thrones book series is it? If so... who is producing it? Do you know when it's coming out?

Yes it is :)
It's by Fantasy Flight Games (www.fantasyflightgames.com).
The one I am doing illustrations for is a Trading Card Game but they also have Table Top Games based on the Books.

the skintones are amazing... that must be very funny and stimulating working on this kind of subjects, mustn't it?
I'd like to know something more about how do you decide to draw a face instead of another... How do you choose their features?

What I love is the armosphere and the skin tones you did with the characters. I think is cool to paint ugly people (the middle one) because not everybody is attractive or cute hahaha, but the only mistake with this one is a very small body (or too big head???) My greetings to you lady Natascha.
