Red Queen Wip by Kyena Red Queen Wip by Kyena
Yes I am still alive (thanks for the PMs!)

Working on some illustration for the X-Box Version of an Arcade Card Game and this is one of them (still work in progress as I have a bit troubles focusing on this little illustration, doing some other NDA work the same time).

Just some step-by-step shots to replace the ID on the recent deviation thingie.

I will also most probably reactivate my DA print account - so stay tuned.

EDIT: hah - I Just noticed how the DA green actually makes the colors pop much nicer (on the copy in my current journal)..(logical actually since red and green are complimentary colors - why didn't I think of that myself >_<;). I might change the background because of that..

I am amazed at what artist like you can do with CS2. I play around with it a bit but I did not know its potential. Oh my, now I am challenged to see what I can do.

Nice tequnique. I try to understand the way you draw, from a simple sketch to a photorealistic image (really her face looks 100% real). I noticed you drew a vertical line on the face, i suppose this is a method. Have you been to an art school? I must find some tutorials...
SeraphSanctuary Featured By Owner Aug 8, 2006
This steps shown and the brush set which is available on your web page helped me so much on my last deviation (: it amazed me over and over again (while painting and reviewing your gallery). Thanks for sharing your work with us!!

These walk throughs are so useful, Tascha. I really love yor restraint on the level of detail, like you know where to take the eye just by putting the right amount of light and detail. These really help me see areas I could improve my own artwork in. And I'd definitely agree with the change in background colours, too, though the DA gree makes the highlights look very cool on her face. Do you use any kind of reference for the lighting and how the shadows fall, such as yourself in a mirror or suchlike? Just curious, as I have real problems getting lighting and shadows to work without at least some reference.
Kyena Featured By Owner Jun 26, 2006  Professional Digital Artist
yes, sometimes - I either use a mirror or for the body if I have tricky light I use a photo ref of my arm or hand or so :)
it depends though. For example for the wax dragon and summer I didn't use any reference at all - but the light source is not so strong and visible on those two (well it actually is but it's not a tricky light situation to pull off)
SolidAhmed Featured By Owner Jun 25, 2006
you are just getting better and better. nice work. loved the details on the face

Sehr hübsch.
Danke füpr das WIP, kam man recht gut sehen wie du bei den Haaren vorgehst.
Hmm sah mit den angedeuteten Augebrauen irgendwie "höfischer aus".
Gefiel mir irgendwie besser.
Weiß aber nicht inwieweit das deine Absicht war.
Und im Mund würde ich noch die Zähne dezent sichtbar machen.
Kyena Featured By Owner Jun 25, 2006  Professional Digital Artist
ich bin mir bei den Augenbrauen auch nicht sicher...ich habe sie noch auf einem separaten Layer - weil ich sie nochmals überarbeiten wollte.
Das mit den Zähnen probier ich dann mal - danke :)
