Tasch - I've always been curious about how many layers you use in a typical work? Do you use several or only a few? I find it hard myself sometimes blending an image with the background if I use too many layers because there are so many elements to deal with, light, color, shadow etc.
I agree with you it's hard to blend nicely if you have too many layers and imo it gets a bit artificial. I normally have a layer for the background, for the main character and then depending on the depth in front and behind the character layer.
I do add new layers if I add and try out things first but I merge them down as soon as I am happy with the outcome.
Whoa... this has got to be one of the best work in progess images I've seen to date. It's just so stunning how you went from that sketch to the final print. Your dimention in the drawing and detail are really amazing. A definite fav on my end.
it depends a lot - for the spring one I had actually no reference at all. If I am using references I am asking my boyfriend to take a picture of myself to be able to work from there. I try not to never copy something 1:1 but use the reference to have a base to work from
nope - what I do is when I sit on the train or (on the toilet but shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh) or lay in bed I flip through magazines and try to "study" certain features I like (a cute nose, beautiful eyes, sexy lips) and then when I paint I remember them..look at my own face for light for example then try to combine everything in my head. For some reason I think this doesn't make any sense at all..does it?
